I'm Richard Bruskiewich, Bioinformatics Specialist in the Crop Research Informatics Laboratory at IRRI and CIMMYT.

I am working on the development of the International Crop Information System ICIS and on its deployment for the International Rice Information System IRIS. I focus in particular on the next generation software development of the system for managing genomic information and for web publication of data, using a platform based on the Java programming language.

In the Generation Challenge Program I lead Task 2005-22 of Sub-Program 4 - Domain Models and Ontology for the Generation CP - as well as Task 2005-31 - Development of a Comparative Stress Gene Catalog and Gene Orthologue Display Tools. I am the former PI and current key collaborator on the Task 2005-24 - Web Service Application development, and also work heavily in the Task 2006-08 - SP2 Data Analysis task.

At IRRI, I focus primarily on the bioinformatics analysis of cereal (mainly rice) genomics information. In particular, I am (in 2007) coordinating IRRI efforts in the analysis of Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) data analysis (see The OryzaSNP web site).
