Yates Family, 2007

I have been with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada at the Semiarid Prairie Agricultural Research Centre (SPARC) in Swift Current, Saskatchewan since 2000 and have been a Quantitative Genetics Technician since 2001, working for Dr. Fran Clarke.

My work at SPARC over that past few years has mainly been focused on the implementation, administration and development of ICIS at SPARC, and also at Lethbridge Research Centre (LRC)in Lethbridge, Alberta and Cereal Research Centre (CRC) in Winnipeg, Manitoba. There are plans to expand the usage of ICIS to other centres in the future.

Within the ICIS community, I have worked with Dr. Fran Clarke, the breeders at SPARC and members of CRIL and the ICIS community to develop the Data Comparison Tool, a VB.Net application to query breeder data from ICIS. It is currently being used by breeders and researchers at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the University of Saskatchewan to access the archived data stored in ICIS.

As for life away from work, I spend most of my time with my wife Jo, our daughter Jorja, our son Jaxson, and our dog, Marty. Life has gotten very busy now that we have 2 kids under the age of 3! I enjoy watching sports and movies, spending time at our cabin at Lac Peltier, and playing hockey, slo-pitch or golf (when there's time).

I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing everyone at the ICIS 2008 Developer's Workshop at IRRI!
