GRIMS Implementation Issues
This page describes problems and their implementation in GRIMS and/or ICIS.
Taxonomic reclassification
Germplasm is received with a taxon name attached. It may subsequently be re-classified to belong to a different taxon. Taxonomic re-classification may also be necessary due to a change in taxonomic opinion. It is a general problem that requires a solution in GRIMS (ICIS?).
The two taxon names (old & new) are not necessarily synonyms in the taxonomic sense. The issue is that a given germplasm was previously known and recorded under a taxon name that is no longer considered valid. However, the old taxon name needs to be preserved. There are several possibilities how this could be handled.
Unnamed varieties
There are different ways of “naming” unnamed varieties. They are currently getting values such “No information”, “No name”, “Unnamed”, “Unknown”.
Previous names
These are the names which need to be cleaned and put in their proper name types.
