GRIMS Seed Management

Overview

Preservation of high quality seeds for long-term conservation is one of the major operations of the Genebank. The seeds are stored as Active Collection and Base Collection. Additionally, the Genebank is also dedicated to giving out seeds for those who request it. Hence, they need to maintain an optimum amount of seeds for Active and Base Collections, and for distribution. In order to achieve this, the seeds are subjected to multiplication/ seed increase to maintain availability. However, regeneration of seeds is maintained at minimum frequency to preserve the genetic structure of the original sample and to minimize the loss of less adapted or susceptible germplasm samples.

The Seed Management Module ensures that the seeds in the active and base storage maintain a high standard. This module also allows seed monitoring, seed withdrawal and seed distribution.
